This program, led by Dr. Margaret Bristow (Professor of African American Studies) will be an open conversation about the Black cultural experience. Topics will be submitted by attendees as they arrive, and their input will help guide the conversation. This event is open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served.

About Dr. Bristow

Dr. Margaret Bernice Smith Bristow is the owner of an online writing and editing business called Bernice; she can help you start writing that life story you always wanted to write, apply for a grant, or edit that novel or book you have written. She is an active member of the Portsmouth NAACP where she in an ACT-So judge, and branch historian for the national award-winning Hampton Roads ASALH Branch started by the father of Black history, Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1915. She is the first person in the country to do a review of the most comprehensive documentary of poet Paul Laurence Dunbar published in the Journal of African American History, one of the best black history journals in the country. Serving as Diversity Chairperson for the Hampton American Association of University Women, she wrote, directed and produced a play entitled “Shame on You Not to Know the Father of Black History” which starred five teens from the five area high schools from 2014-2018. She has had a plethora of poems, articles, and chapters in books and journals continuously since the late 70's. Moreover, Dr. Bristow has presented research locally, regionally, and internationally on black history.
