About the artist
We were first introduced to artist Thomas E. Heath through the extraordinary solo exhibit “Beutiful Irony”, which was dedicated to the artist’s grandmother and greatest influence, Beulah Fox. Fox was also the first black employee of 2410 Wickham Ave. when it served as an all-white school. Thus, it was a beautiful irony that her grandson was able to return during the 100th year of our building’s history with a solo exhibit in our gallery.
Heath primarily works in acrylic on wood, paper and canvas. He continues to doodle. His subject matter consistently explores the impact of the African slave trade on people of the African Diaspora, including the untold stories of the many whose lives were lost at sea.
