The Newport News Community Gallery displays exhibits throughout the year featuring the works of local, national, and international artists. This gallery also hosts multiple student exhibits. Evidence: Coal Dust in Hampton Roads
This exhibit focuses on the coal dust pollution that has plagued Southeast Newport News residents for decades. Data, stories, photographs and maps illustrate the day-to-day effects of coal dust on people’s lives in this historically Black neighborhood.

Out of the Classroom: My Life in Folk Art
Take a journey with artist George Jackson in his first solo exhibit. This exhibition is a whimsical, folksy take on the artist’s upbringing and extensive travels. Primarily featuring illustrations on paper, “My Life in Folk Art” is an accessible and approachable avenue into the world of folk art.
On display: August 9th - 30th
Opening reception: August 9th, 1PM-3PM. Free to attend!
The reception will feature a scavenger hunt that takes you on a ‘journey’ through the exhibit where you can enter for a chance to win a DG swag bag!
