Episode 19
Bottle Cap Flowers - August 5, 2020
We’re using more of those old water bottles with today’s SOAR entry. Only three supplies are necessary to make these whimsical, recyclable floral arrangements.
Materials:
Water Bottle
Scissors
Paint
Instructions:
Cut your water bottle in half horizontally.
Cut a number of vertical slits into the half of the bottle from the open edge. Be careful as the plastic may be a little sharp
Peel back the plastic to open the “petals”
Paint and decorate to your liking. Feel free to use glue and glitter or to trim the petals into more flower-like shapes.

Water Bottle Fish - July 29, 2020
Create an abstract masterpiece using bubbles in this week’s episode. Check it out in the video above! For very young children, it is advised to have an adult assist with this project.
Materials:
Water Bottle
Scissors
Paint
Tape
Instructions:
Cut the bottom of the water bottle off
Flatten out the back portion of the bottle
Cut two triangles on each side of the bottle and keep the scraps
Use the tape to glue the two little triangles on either side of the bottle for fins
Paint and decorate the bottle to your liking.

Bubble Prints - July 22, 2020
Create an abstract masterpiece using bubbles in this week’s episode. Check it out in the video above! For very young children, it is advised to have an adult assist with this project.
Materials:
Small Plastic Container
Water
Tempura Paint
Dish Soap
Straw
Thick Paper
Instructions:
Mix dish soap with water and paint
Use the straw to blow bubbles in the mixture
Place a piece of paper on top of the bubbles
Repeat until desired look is achieved, adding different colors and blowing different sized bubbles
Allow to dry

Salt Jellyfish - July 15, 2020
We’re playing with texture and color in this episode of SOAR! If you want to learn how to make these unique and creative pieces using glue, salt, and food coloring/watercolor paints, check out the video above!
Materials:
Salt
Glue
Watercolor Paint or Food Coloring
Paper
Paintbrush
Instructions:
Use the glue to draw a jellyfish. For more control, feel free to use a paintbrush to paint the glue onto the paper. Just make sure there’s enough glue for the salt to stick.
Cover the glue with salt.
Shake the excess salt off of the glue,
Use a paintbrush to drop the watercolor/food coloring over your design.
Allow your work to dry completely.
Your jellyfish masterpiece is complete.

Sun Catcher - July 8, 2020
Add some color and light to your life with this fun and vibrant sun catcher! Make one or make many and string them together to create a glowing daytime mobile!
Materials:
Old CD or blank disc
Scissors
Duct Tape
String
Permanent Marker
Paint Brush
Paint
Instructions:
Cut two small slits on the top of the CD (Use parental assistance as necessary)
Use the duct take tot peel off the CD Covering
Draw a design with permanent marker
Paint your design. Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step!
Tie a piece of string through the middle of the string. Ensure that it is long enough to hang in your window.
Voila! Your sun catcher is now ready to bring light and color to your room!

Puffy Paint - July 1, 2020
We’re bringing a traditionally two-dimensional piece of art to life with this week’s episode of SOAR. Learn how to make your own DIY puffy paint!
Materials:
Shaving Cream
White Glue
Flour
Food Coloring
Bowl
Paint brush
Popsicle stick or plastic spoon (for mixing)
Paper
Instructions:
Combine shaving cream, glue, flour and food coloring (color of your choice) into the bowl
Mix well using your popsicle stick or plastic spoon
Use the paint brush to paint a unique 3D design
Episode 13
Scratch Board - June 24, 2020
The magic of scratch board paper has been revealed in this week’s episode of SOAR. Learn how to make this creative craft paper in bulk so that you can make new scratch drawings without having to run to the craft store!
Materials:
Acrylic Paint (Typically Black)
Crayons
Liquid Dish Soap
Popsicle Sticks or a Coin (For scratching)
Paint Brush
Construction Paper
A cup or bowl for mixing (optional)
Instructions:
Color the entire piece of construction paper with crayons. Be sure to use multiple colors for a really cool look.
Mix dish soap and acrylic paint in a cup or bowl.
Use the paint brush to apply the paint mixture on top of your crayon-colored construction paper.
Allow to dry for 30 minutes (or until completely dry).
Take the penny or popsicle stick and carve out your beautiful design.

Secret Message - June 17, 2020
Write a secret message or create a mysterious masterpiece with this unique technique! The watercolor paint will not be absorbed by the white crayon which allows you to create cool compositions using negative space!
Materials:
Watercolor Paints
White Crayon
Paint brush
Cup of Water
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Write a message or draw an image using the white crayon on a blank piece of paper.
Dip the paintbrush into your water and dip it into the watercolor paint
Paint over your message or drawing and watch it appear before your eyes!
Episode 11
Invisible Ink Messages - June 10, 2020
Write a secret message or create a mysterious masterpiece with this DIY Invisible Ink! It can be fun for family and friends to decode the messages and watch the seemingly blank page come to life.
Materials:
A Cup or Bowl for Mixing
Lemon Juice
Water
Cotton Swab
White paper
Heat Source (ex: the sun, an iron, or a lamp)
Instructions:
Squeeze the lemon juice into a cup/bowl and add a spoonful of water. Mix gently.
Dip the cotton swab into the lemon juice mixture and write a message or draw a picture on the white paper.
When finished, allow the page to dry completely.
Share your secret by sitting the dried paper in the sunlight or holding it close to a lamp or an iron. Please use adult supervision when working with the lamp or the iron.
Voila! Your mysterious masterpiece has been revealed!
Episode 10
Straw Painting - June 3, 2020
This unique technique uses a straw to create an abstract masterpiece. When you’re finished, please be sure to recycle or reuse your straw with the tips available here.
Materials:
Straw (Plastic or Reusable)
Your choice of paints (3-5 recommended)
Water
Cup or Bowl
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Choose your first paint option and add it to your cup or bowl with a little bit of water.
Pour the diluted paint mixture onto your construction paper.
Use the straw to blow and drag the paint around the surface.

Episode 9
Leaf Painting - May 27, 2020
We’re going back into nature to make these one-of-a-kind leaf paintings! You can get creative by using different types of leaves, painting different designs on the leaves before stamping, and even painting around your stamped leaf designs.
Materials:
Leaves of varying sizes
Paint (3-5 colors recommended)
Paintbrush
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Choose your leaf and paint the top surface
Flip the leaf over and press the painted side down into the construction paper, like a stamp.
Remove the leaf to reveal your leaf print.
Repeat these steps by reapplying paint or choosing a new leaf to paint.

Episode 8
Pizza Box Games - May 20, 2020
Don’t throw out that pizza box! We’re repurposing it to create a board game for endless hours of enjoyment. You can grab the materials that we have and make the ring toss game that we created or get creative with the materials to make your own game. The best part is that the pieces can be stored inside the box to keep forever.
Materials:
Bathroom Paper Tubes
Popsicle sticks
Scissors
Markers
Pipe Cleaners
Glue
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Clean the pizza box
Cut and glue construction paper to line the bottom inside of the pizza box.
To create three tube-sized holes in the top of the box, trace the flat edge of the paper tubes. Cut out the traced circles.
Place the tubes in the newly cut holes.
Twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together to create rings
Challenge your family to games of skill with tossing the rings on the tubes or throwing the popsicle sticks in them while standing at a distance.
Voila! Your pizza box ring toss is complete! When finished, remove the tubes from the lid of the pizza box and store all pieces inside. Feel free to decorate the box and pieces to your liking.

Pine Cone People - May 13, 2020
We’re using materials found in nature today to create these one-of-a-kind characters. Grab some pine cones from around the yard and make some fun figurines.
Materials:
Large Pine Cone
Googly Eyes
Buttons, beads, or beans
Pipe cleaners
Glue
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Clean the pine cone
Place eyes and nose on the pine cone
Cut and glue a smiling face onto your pine cone
Glue pipe cleaners around the pine cone to create arms
Cut out accessories like hats and clothes to dress your pine cone
Voila! Your pine cone person is complete. Feel free to name them and create a full town of pine cone people!
Episode 6
Totally Tubular Figurines - May 6, 2020
Similar to Forky from Toy Story 4, these totally tubular creations spread joy. Instead of disposing the center of the toilet paper rolls, they can be repurposed to make new characters or to bring the cast of your favorite cartoon to life. Let’s start making!
Materials:
Toilet Paper or Paper Towel Tube
Googly Eyes, Buttons, Beads, or Beans
Glue
Tape
Pipe Cleaners
Marker
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Using glue, cover the paper roll with construction paper.
Add your eyes and nose to the tube. Feel free to sketch them out first.
Glue the pipe cleaner around the tube to create arms
Using a marker, create a smiling face.
Decorate your tube as much as you like with other household items or decorations. You can add feet, hair, or maybe even clothes. It’s time to get creative.
Episode 5
Tie-Dye Flowers - April 29, 2020
Create your very own forever garden with these beautiful tie-dye flowers. The best part is, you only have to water them once. This fun project is great for creating a one-of-a-kind bouquet, just in time for Mother’s Day. Create fun color combinations and maybe even trim the edges to get a more realistic flower petal look!
Materials:
Coffee Filters
Washable Markers
A Container of Water
Pipe Cleaners
Instructions:
Lay the coffee filter flat against the table. We recommend covering your workstation for easier clean-up!
Color the front and back of the coffee filter with your washable markers. One marker works well but we recommend using two to three colors for a true tie-dye effect.
Once finished, fold your colored coffee filter in half.
Place the folded coffee filter into your water for one to five minutes. Once the colors have blended, remove the filter from the water.
Unfold the wet filter carefully and lay it flat to dry.
Once completely dry, pinch the center of your coffee filter.
Wrap the pipe cleaner around the pinched portion until secure.
Gently separate the “petals” of your flower to create the desired look.
Voila! A beautiful flower that doesn’t need watering!
Episode 4
Cool Character Masks - April 22, 2020
Transform into a cool character with these creative masks! Use your imagination to become any character – a fairy, a werewolf, or even a new creation that no one has ever seen before.
Materials:
Any Decorating Supplies (Paint, markers, crayons, etc.)
Scissors (Please Use Adult Supervision)
Cardboard or Construction Paper
Optional Items
Glue
String
Instructions:
On one piece of cardboard or construction paper, draw your cool character’s features. Try different eyes, noses, lips, ears, etc.
Cut out your wacky features with adult supervision.
On a second piece of cardboard or construction paper, arrange your cut-out shapes to create a mask.
Cut the mask into the shape that you want, adding holes to either side for attaching string.
After assembling your mask, decorate it how you see fit. Add color, glitter, feathers, or any other art supplies that you may have on hand. If you use paint and/or glue, be sure to let your mask dry before trying it out.
Put on the mask and become your cool character!
Episode 3
Abstract String Painting - April 15, 2020
We’re getting creative with a technique that turns string into your paintbrush. Let your imagination run wild as the potential is limitless for creating one-of-a-kind designs.
Materials:
String or Twine
Your choice of paints (We recommend 3-5)
Toothpicks or Small Twigs
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Cut 3-5 pieces of string as long as you wish
Tie the string to a toothpick, allowing the string to hang freely
Place the hanging end of the string into the desired paint color. Coat the string in paint.
Carefully place the string on your construction paper.
Holding the toothpick, lift, drag and drop the paint-covered string along the canvas, creating unique abstract designs.
Experiment! Try it again using different colors and patterns to create unique abstract string paintings!
Episode 2
Shaving Cream Painting - April 8, 2020
Create this messy masterpiece with some fun and foamy shaving cream. This activity may get messy so we suggest using a workspace that can easily be cleaned like a newspaper-covered table top or on a plastic placemat.
Materials:
Shaving cream
Wax paper or a clean surface
Food coloring
Popsicle stick(s)
Construction Paper
Instructions:
Pump a small amount of shaving cream onto your piece of wax paper (or clean surface).
Place five (5) drops of food coloring on the surface of the shaving cream. Feel free to use different colors and try placing the drops close together or far apart.
Use a popsicle stick to swirl the colors through the shaving cream in a cool pattern.
Gently place a piece of construction paper on the surface of the mixture.
Lift the paper to remove it from the mixture and remove the excess shaving cream by scraping or patting.
Experiment! Try it again using different colors and patterns to create unique shaving cream masterpieces.
Episode 1
Volcano Painting - April 1, 2020
This classic science fair project takes an artistic spin as we use the reaction to create a painted masterpiece! This activity may get messy so we suggest using a workspace that can easily be cleaned like a newspaper-covered table top or on a plastic placemat.
Materials:
3 tbsp. baking soda
1/2 cup water
Any amount of paint
Any amount of vinegar
Canvas or construction paper
Paint brush
Instructions:
Mix three teaspoons of baking soda in 1/2 cup of water. Add a little paint to this mixture and stir until well combined.
With the paint brush, apply the mixture to your canvas or construction paper.
Pour as much or as little vinegar directly onto the paint/baking soda covered canvas to create an eruption of color!
Experiment! Try adding different colors and different amounts of vinegar. See what you can come up with using this cool and creative technique.
