About the Artist
Craig McDonald is an artist who thrives on transformation—of materials, of spaces, and of perspective. His work is a visceral exploration of texture, movement, and meaning, blending elements of painting, mixed media, poetry, and wordplay to create pieces that feel both raw and deeply intentional. Inspired by dreams, travels, and the people he’s encountered, Craig’s art doesn’t just exist—it speaks. It evokes emotion, invites connection, and reflects a life lived with curiosity and purpose.
Born of laughter, neon, and caravan light, Craig was conceived amidst the spinning wheels and candy-floss nights of Kirkcaldy’s Links Market—the largest street fair in Europe. His story begins unconventionally and has stayed that way ever since. Raised in Kirkcaldy, it was at Valley Primary School that his teacher, Miss Graham, sparked an early love of art and encouraged him to keep creating.
Craig has called Newport News, Virginia home for nearly half his life. Alongside his father, two friends, and with logistical help from his stepmother, he walked from the Yorktown Bowling Alley to Fredericksburg, VA, to raise awareness and funds for Toys for Tots. A passionate advocate for the environment, Craig regularly contributes to Newport News’ “Adopt-a-Spot” program and was honored to receive a community service award from the city’s mayor for his ongoing efforts.
Whether through art, activism, or community engagement, Craig McDonald’s work is rooted in lived experience and a deep commitment to making things better—from the ground up.
