About the Exhibit

DG Guest Curator, Clayton Singleton presents this radiant exhibit on display in the Newport News Community Gallery beginning in January 2021. Light From All Sides is a multi-artist exhibit that examines interpretations of love through exhilarating artistic expression. The featured artists have each translated the often esoteric and individualized experience into works of art. The resulting expressions are as unique as the combinations of styles and mediums on display, with the common thread being the feeling - best described as stepping out of the darkness and into the sun to feel warmth and light from all sides.

The exhibit will be on display January 9 - March 6, 2021. Featured in the exhibit are Alyssa Pickens, Jasmyne Hampden, Parrish Majestic, ChaVonne Whisonant, Julian Haskins, Mensah Bey, Rain Spann, Poetry Jackson, and Ray Johnson. The exhibit has been curated by Clayton Singleton.

Opening Reception:

Meet the talented artists and learn more about their pieces in this intimate gallery reception on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. This event is free but timed registration required. Face masks/shields are required. Register Here.

LFAS Imagination Room:

The youth paint night led by Rain Spann and Parrish Majestic will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 5:00 - 6:00 pm. For this free event for ages 7-17, Parrish Majestic and Rain Spann will be collaborating to bring the first “Imagination Room” to life. This collaboration will be a combination of painting and viewing. For the painting portion of the event, the children in attendance will each be given a canvas, 5 brushes, and specific paint colors to create their own artwork AFTER the example piece is created by the instructors.

This artwork will be a depiction of 3 flowers surrounded by an array of lights on all sides. 3D paints and glasses will be used to enhance the experience of viewing. The 3D glasses will also be an amazing way to allow the children to truly see “light from all sides” as they will be able to view their paintings in many different colors and in a very non-traditional, but creative, way. Finally, participants will be able to share their thoughts, views and experiences using such unique tools of expression via a “social discussion board” to uploaded to social media. This is an in-person event. Registration is required. Face masks or shields are required. Register Here.

Online Artist Panel Discussion:

Can’t make the reception? No worries! We’ll have a virtual artist panel that will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
