About the Artist
Jasmine R. Walker is a newly found artist born in Danville, Virginia on December 22, 1990. Most know her by the artist name of Jazz (Ja22), she studied at Christopher Newport University earning her Bachelors in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History, while also being accepted into Kappa Pi Honorary Art Fraternity. She is also the Director of Fine Arts for the Boys and Girls clubs at Pinedale Manor and Peninsula, where she helps the board of the Boys and Girls club with curating for the youth’s art shows.
Although Jazz’s Fine Arts degree has equipped her with the knowledge of other mediums, painting is a fairly new medium with which she began to work after her completion at CNU in 2013. In a matter of a few years, Jazz has become a stand out, new and upcoming artist in the Tidewater area.
Since beginning her art career as a painter, Jazz has done commissioned work for local clients, businesses, charities, and musicians such as Yung Berg. Her work has been mentioned on the Black Wall St. and on local news stations such as Hampton Roads News Channel 3. Jazz has also been a two time returning artist to The Arts (Spring and Winter Festivals) and The Heart Beat Gala. With the start of a new art career, Jazz takes her talents and uses them to paint live (sometimes with the use of body models).
Jazz Walker is an artist that uses her work to appeal to all but still making underlying statements that are better voiced through art. Currently she is a painter living Hampton, Virginia, inspiring to be an artist advocate for the black LGBT community and African American women.
