About The Exhibit

In honor of Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday and our annual Ella Fitzgerald Music Festival, we bring you the exhibition, “Frim Fram Sauce”. “Frim Fram Sauce” is an art exhibit that asks artists to translate the whimsical spirit of Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald’s classic performance of the song “The Frim Fram Sauce” into a vibrant visual experience. Centering on the playful, nonsense‑infused culinary imagery suggested by the song’s mood, this exhibit will showcase artworks that explore food, fantasy, and abstraction through a jazz‑inspired lens.

Call to Artists & Eligibility

Artists! Submit your work to be submitted in our group exhibition, “Frim Fram Sauce”. The exhibit will take place from March 6 - April 24,2027 in our Newport News Community Gallery.

Priority in the selection process will be given to artists subscribed to our artist email newsletter
Submitted works shall include food, surrealism, or abstraction (can include one of these elements or all).
Full eligibility requirements will be updated in December!
