About The Artists
About the Exhibit
DG Guest Curator, Clayton Singleton presents this radiant exhibit on display in the Newport News Community Gallery beginning in January 2021. Light From All Sides is a multi-artist exhibit that examines interpretations of love through exhilarating artistic expression. The featured artists have each translated the often esoteric and individualized experience into works of art. The resulting expressions are as unique as the combinations of styles and mediums on display, with the common thread being the feeling - best described as stepping out of the darkness and into the sun to feel warmth and light from all sides.
Pictured above are the artists featured in this exhibit (from left to right): Ray Johnson, Rain Spann, ChaVonne Whisonant, Jasmyne Hampden, Alyssa Pickens, Poetry Jackson, Parrish Majestic, Julian Haskins, and Mensah Bey.

LFAS Imagination Room:
Youth Paint Night led by Rain Spann and Parrish Majestic on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 5:00 - 6:00 pm. For this youth paint night, Parrish Majestic and Rain Spann will be collaborating to bring the first “Imagination Room” to life. This collaboration will be a combination of painting and viewing. For the painting portion of the event, the children in attendance will each be given a canvas, 5 brushes, and specific paint colors to create their own artwork AFTER the example piece is created by the instructors.
This artwork will be a depiction of 3 flowers surrounded by an array of lights on all sides. 3D paints and glasses will be used to enhance the experience of viewing. The 3D glasses will also be an amazing way to allow the children to truly see “light from all sides” as they will be able to view their paintings in many different colors and in a very non-traditional, but creative, way. Finally, participants will be able to share their thoughts, views and experiences using such unique tools of expression via a “social discussion board” to uploaded to social media. This event is in-person. Registration is required and the registration deadline is January 11, 2021 by 11:59 pm. Face masks or shields are required.
