About the Artist
My name is Loretta ‘Lo’ Jackson, and I am a long-time resident of the wonderful city of Newport News, VA.
My love for art began at a very young age. I remember sitting at the window of my father’s room, staring at a neighbor’s backyard, feeling bored. My parents, noticing my restlessness, handed me paper and pencil. Like most children, I started doodling. That was my discovery moment – I realized I loved to draw. I began sketching on everything, from walls when I was little, to notebook paper, and eventually to the back of a huge off-white wood panel left over from our house decor when I was a teenager.
My parents supported my hobby by buying me sketchbooks, allowing me to relax and immerse myself in my own creative, peaceful world. I received a lot of encouragement to do something with my gift from God. Although I never attended art school or took art courses in college, I believe that as artists, we must follow our own style and artistic manner. We are meant to stand out in our own special way, not be carbon copies of each other.
My inspiration comes from my parents who raised me, my faith in My Lord and Savior, and my friends and family. I also find inspiration from life and my surroundings.
Recently, I decided to share my inspired art with others.
