About The Artist

Marjorie G. Wallace

Born in Brooklyn, New York, the eldest daughter of Artist-Physician’s Assistant, Tucker D. Wallace, Jr., and Artist-Accountant, Ann Elizabeth “Dolly” Wright-Wallace, Marjorie learned to appreciate art and nature from birth. She was labeled their, “Renaissance child.” Like her mom, she has a love for humanity, music, writing poetry, creativity, and the arts. Like her dad, she inherited long piano fingers, an affection for reading, a work-a-holic nature for the sciences, a love of medicine and dissection, and an innate desire to paint and illustrate her world. Surrounded by canvases, turpentine, museums, known artists, writers, civil rights leaders, and musicians helped form her view of the world. “The world is an intricate colorful palate designed to fill a canvas with wonderful stories and experiences,” Marjorie stated.

While attending Tilden High School, Brooklyn, New York, Marjorie earned a full scholarship in figure drawing at The Brooklyn Museum Art League. Over the years she has exchanged ideas and styles with her self-taught parents, classes at Brooklyn Restoration, and artists friends.

Twenty-seven years ago, Marjorie and her son Dean moved to Newport News, Virginia, and have made it their home. Teaching sciences at Huntington Middle School, located in the neighborhood she still resides in, she was National Board Certified and was recognized as Teacher of the Year 2009-2010 up to Virginia Region II Teacher of the Year 2010.

Marjorie retired from The Governors School of Health Sciences at Warwick High School. Currently enrolled at Christopher Newport University she is attending an array of art courses for personal growth.
