"The Color Purple: The Musical" Nominated for 2023-24 HRACT Awards

We are proud to share that Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center’s production of “The Color Purple: The Musical” has been nominated multiple for Hampton Roads Achievement in Community Theater Awards! Congratulations to the cast and crew who were nominated.

• Best Performance in a Leading Female Role (Musical)- Chasida Taylor as Celie

• Best Performance in a Supporting Male Role (Musical)- Lu Chambers as Mister

• Best Performance in a Supporting Male Role (Musical)- Derrion Hawkins as Harpo

• Best Performance of a Song (Solo/Small Group)- Chasida Taylor’s performance of “I’m Here”

• Best Performance of a Song (Ensemble)- the Company’s performance of “The Color Purple (Reprise)”
